The emotional variations involved in the purchasing processes have been deserving greater attention from the marketing researchers, since a complete understanding of the influences that these variations exert on the decision-taking process of the consumers remains a challenge to the academic field of action itself as well as to the enterprising managers. Based on theoretical evidences showing that emotions are present in a wide range of consumption contexts, this study attempted to examine the occurrence of positive and positive and negative emotions in the stages of the real estate acquisition process among the older consumers. With this purpose, a research was carried out involving emotions such as tranquility, envy, satisfaction, insatisfaction, worry, romanticism, shame, joy, excitement, delight, depression and surprise which resulted from the replication applied in Brazil by Lobato (2002) from the CES scale developed by Richins (1997). The analysis of the content from the interviews has provided an ensemble of relevant findings for a greater understanding of the role of emotions present in the decision-taking process of a high involvement purchase, especially by the mature consumers. Emotions such as delight, satisfaction, surprise and tranquility were expressed with greater emphasis by the interviewees, while shame and envy were addressed as reproachable and inadequate emotions for this kind of purchase. In the final chapter the academic and administrative implications of the results obtained are shown, as well as their limitations and the new possibilities of research that have arisen with the accomplishment of this study.en_US
