| Resumo: | O propósito desta pesquisa, de caráter analítico e sintético, é investigarmos a natureza da beatitude na filosofia moral de Tomás de Aquino. Fundamentado principalmente nos tratados da Summa contra gentiles, Summa theologiae, Super Boetium de Trinitate e Compendium theologiae, analisaremos a busca da beatitude humana pela contemplação do objeto supremo, Deus, origem, razão e fim último das criaturas. De acordo com esse itinerário, defenderemos a tese de que é impossível nesta vida alcançar a beatitude perfeita pela contemplação da essência divina. Só é possível conhecer, seja por meio da razão natural seja pela revelação, os efeitos de Deus, almejando somente uma beatitude imperfeita, ficando a perfeita para a outra vida. Diante disso, estruturamos o texto em três capítulos. No primeiro, abordaremos a síntese filosófico-teológica, inserindo a busca pela beatitude no contexto da filosofia do ser, porque o ser, Deus, sustenta toda a estrutura do edifício tomista. Depois, sobre os pressupostos da filosofia moral e a natureza da alma intelectiva. No segundo, sobre os fundamentos da beatitude imperfeita, seguindo a divisão da vida humana em ativa e contemplativa. Por meio desta, pela virtude da sabedoria, o Aquinate procura elevar a alma intelectiva do sábio à verdade mais inteligível, transcendente e eterna, Deus. No terceiro, analisaremos as possibilidades e os limites contemplativos de Deus nesta vida, iniciando a reflexão sobre os atributos de Deus oriundos pelo conhecimento dos efeitos sensíveis, ou seja, a posteriori. Após isso, adentraremos nas propriedades específicas da contemplação da essência divina, apresentando os argumentos decisivos de Tomás de Aquino para justificar a impossibilidade da beatitude perfeita neste mundo.
The purpose of this research, of analytic and synthetic character, is to investigate the nature of the beatitude in the moral philosophy of Thomas Aquinas. Mainly supported by the treaties of Summa contra gentiles, Summa theologiae, Super Boetium de Trinitate e Compendium theologiae, we will analyze the search for human beatitude by the contemplation of the supreme object, God, origin, reason, and final ending of creatures. According to this itinerary, we will defend the theses that it is impossible in this life to reach perfect beatitude by the contemplation of the divine essence. It is only possible to know, whether by means of natural reason or by revelation, the effects of God, aspiring the seed of an imperfect beatitude, leaving the perfect one for another life. Therefore, we have structured the text into three chapters. On the first one, we will talk about the philosophic-theological synthesis, including the search for beatitude in the context of philosophy of the being, because the being, God, supports all the structure of the Thomist building. Afterwards, about the assumptions of moral philosophy and the nature of the intellective soul. On the second one, we will talk about the fundamentals of imperfect beatitude, along with the division of human life in active and contemplative. Hence, by the virtue of wisdom, Aquinas tries to elevate the intellective soul of the wise to a more intelligible truth, transcendent and eternal, God. On the third one, we will analyze the possibilities and the contemplative limits of God in this life, starting the reflection about God’s attributes proceeding by the knowledge of the sensitive effects, or, a posteriori. After that, we will enter the specific proprieties of contemplation of the divine essence, and present the decisive arguments from Thomas de Aquinas to justify the impossibility of perfect beatitude in this world. |
