| Abstract: | The phenomenon of Lights in the Sky refers to documentary sources, and humanity has always been concerned about reporting it from antiquity through modern times. This dissertation, whose central theme is about the imaginary of this phenomenon, was inspired by a fisherman’s account in Praia do Rosa, Santa Catarina. Early in the 1950’s he reported having experienced and felt the effects of light shaped like a bottle coming from the sky at the north end of the beach. That account soon became a trigger for this research. It was observed that, at least in the capitalist world and especially in big urban areas, the phenomenon was one of the main social concerns of that time. But how could that social reality be analyzed and be demonstrated from a historiographic viewpoint? Through the History of the Imaginary and analysis and understanding of that period of time –the same as the first phase of the Cold War (1947-1953) – the following objectives and chapters have been developed. As the theme of this dissertation is inserted in the Cold War reality, the construction of the conflict was highlighted in the first chapter (1945-1949), as well as the subsequent Nuclear threat, which generated in the imaginary of the West fierce apprehension about what the Soviet government would or not be planning for the capitalist countries. Considering that imaginary, the appearance of a new form of light in the sky – the image of a flying saucer – was pointed out in the second chapter (1947-1951). The reports and rumors of that image constituted a phenomenon of the Cold War because those societies came to believe it was a Soviet invasion machine as well as an extraterrestrial one. This chapter still demonstrated one of the main objectives of this paper: the social impact the accounts of the phenomenon had on the West. In the last chapter, aside from social interest - especially Brazilian - having been evidenced through the media on the phenomenon of the Lights in the Sky of flying saucers, it was demonstrated how governments, especially the United States, used the imaginary about the phenomenon in their policies. Something governments still seem to do today.
O fenômeno sobre as Luzes no Céu é pertencente às fontes documentais, e a humanidade sempre preocupou-se em relatá-lo, desde a antiguidade aos dias atuais. A presente dissertação, cujo tema central é o imaginário sobre o fenômeno, teve como sua inspiração o relato de um pescador da Praia do Rosa, Santa Catarina, ao qual, no início dos anos 1950, teria presenciado e sofrido, no canto norte daquela praia, a ação de uma luz em forma de garrafa vinda do céu. Aquele relato logo transformou-se num catalisador para esta pesquisa, a qual observou, que, ao menos no mundo capitalista, principalmente nos grandes centros urbanos, o fenômeno era uma das principais preocupações sociais daquele período. Mas como analisar aquela realidade social e demonstrá-la na óptica historiográfica? Através da História do Imaginário e da análise e compreensão da época – a mesma pertenceu à primeira fase da Guerra Fria (1947-1953) –, desenvolveu-se então para este estudo os seguintes objetivos e capítulos. Como o tema desta dissertação inseriu-se na realidade da Guerra Fria, foi destacado, no primeiro capítulo, a construção do conflito (1945-1949) e sua conseqüente ameaça Nuclear, a qual produziu no imaginário ocidental a apreensão sobre o que o governo soviético estaria ou não planejando para os países capitalistas. Diante daquele imaginário, destacou-se no segundo capítulo (1947-1951) o surgimento de uma nova forma de luz no céu, a imagem do disco voador, cujos relatos e boatos constituíram-se num fenômeno da Guerra Fria, pois aquelas sociedades passaram a imaginá-la como uma máquina invasora soviética; e também, extraterrestre. O módulo demonstrou ainda um dos principais objetivos deste trabalho: o impacto social que os relatos sobre o fenômeno causaram no Ocidente. No último capítulo, além do mesmo ter constatado através dos meios de comunicação, o interesse social, em especial do público brasileiro, pelo fenômeno das Luzes no Céu dos discos voadores, foi demonstrado como os governos, principalmente o dos Estados Unidos, utilizaram o imaginário sobre o fenômeno em suas políticas. Uma prática que os governos atuais parecem ainda fazer. |
