The twilight zone, utopia e construção da identidade: em outros mundos seremos outros homens?

Abstract

Este trabalho se trata de uma recuperação e análise crítica da antologia televisiva criada por Rod Serling, The Twilight Zone, visando perceber como ela elabora ficcionalmente as tensões relativas à questão da construção da identidade e dos projetos de mundo, utópicos e ideológicos, contidos nas tensões vividas no momento histórico posterior à Segunda Guerra Mundial e através da produção de cultura de massa durante a expansão da televisão no final dos anos 1950 e início dos anos 1960.Para esse fim apresentamos um recorte de 19 episódios selecionados a partir das 5 temporadas originais da série entre os anos de 1959 e 1964 e arranjados como eixos que articulem coerentemente as temáticas inerentes à série da solidão, da aventura espacial e da metamorfose do homem moderno com a apropriação por ela dos gêneros da Ficção Científica e da Utopia. Em conclusão, The Twilight Zone é um dos sinais do modo como a Ficção Científica se imiscui na televisão e carrega consigo a proeminência daquilo que ela tem de mais ressonante sobre os anseios da época moderna e, com isso, opera uma expansão do pensamento utópico e uma crítica aos modelos ideológicos também presentes aí.

This thesis is a recuperation and critical analysis of the television anthology created by Rod Serling, The Twilight Zone, and has as its main goal the perception of how the show fictionalises the tensions and fears regarding the construction of the self and of world projects, be they utopian or ideological, on the period after the Second World War and through the pervasiveness of media culture production and the expansion of television in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.In order to do so we present a group of 19 episodes arranged in three axes that coherently articulate the themes of loneliness, the space adventure and the metamorphosis of modern man with the genres of Science Fiction and Utopia. In conclusion, The Twilight Zone is one of the signals of the way Science Fiction invades television and carries with it the prominence of all that is most resounding about the fears and anxieties of the modern times and, with that, expands the utopian thought and a critique of the ideological models also present there.
