Tentações e ficções do diabo em José Saramago e José Luís Peixoto

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar o Diabo em suas representações nos romances O Evangelho segundo Jesus Cristo, de José Saramago, e Nenhum Olhar, de José Luís Peixoto, e, assim, traçar um perfil do Príncipe das Trevas conforme a visão da literatura portuguesa contemporânea. Para a realização disto, são apresentadas algumas considerações a respeito da conceituação da figura do Diabo no imaginário ocidental. Também é abordada a relação entre a imagem de Satã construída pela religião e a desenvolvida pela literatura, contemplando principalmente as obras portuguesas. A partir da comparação entre as personagens diabólicas de cada narrativa, é feita a análise das personagens "demónio" e Pastor e suas relações com o homem, com Deus e com a própria ficção, pois o Diabo é, mais do que nunca, o Pai da Mentira.

This paper aims to analyze the Devil and its representation in the novels The gospel according to Jesus Christ, by José Saramago, and Blank Gaze, by José Luís Peixoto, and, thus, profile the Dark Lord according to the view of the Portuguese literature. In order to do so some considerations are presented about the concept of the Devil‘s image in the western culture. The paper also discusses the relationship between Satan‘s image created by religion and the one developed in literature, focusing mainly in the Portuguese novels. Through comparison of the devilish characters of each narrative, it is performed an analysis of the character "devil" and Shepherd and their relation with man, God and the narrative itself, for the Devil is, more than ever, the Father of Lies.
