A faculdade da vontade na polêmica antipelagiana em Santo Agostinho

Abstract

This paper is a study of the theory of will in the thought of St. Augustine. It seeks to show how the power of will is "discovered" by Augustine in De Libero Arbitrio. Dealing with Confessions, Book VIII, the paper shows how the will is fallen and no longer has the ability to do what they want. In the De Diversis Quaestionibus ad Simplicianum is shown the cause of fallen of will, the original sin, and what is the solution to overcome this problem: grace. Finally, drawing upon the works of the period called antipelaginism, the paper makes a comparison between a theory of the will of the pelagianism and a theory of the will in Augustine

Este trabalho é um estudo sobre a teoria da vontade dentro do pensamento de Santo Agostinho. Procura mostrar com a faculdade da vontade é "descoberta" por Agostinho De Libero Arbitrio. Utilizando o livro VIII da obras Confessiones, mostra como a vontade está decaída e não tem mais a capacidade de fazer o que quer. Com o De Diversis Quaestionibus ad Simplicianum é mostrado qual a causa da vontade estar decaída, o pecado original, e a solução para superar tal problema: a graça. Por fim, valendo-se das obras do chamado período antipelagiano, faz um estudo comparativo entre uma teoria da vontade dos pelagianos e uma teoria da vontade em Agostinho.
