Abstract: O envelhecimento faz parte do processo contínuo da vida. Porém, envelhecer com qualidade e ativamente está atrelado a fatores intrínsecos e extrínsecos da cultura do indivíduo, sendo uma destas contribuições o lazer. Com base neste entendimento, este estudo objetivou diagnosticar a importância atribuída ao lazer como fator de qualidade de vida no processo de envelhecimento, pelos idosos ativos acima de 60 anos do Médio Vale do Itajaí, SC, Brasil. Classificado como quanti-quali, exploratório descritivo e transversal, este estudo envolveu uma amostra de 1. 300 idosos ativos de ambos os gêneros das 14 cidades da Região do Médio Vale do Itajaí, SC, Brasil. A amostra foi composta por 61% de mulheres e 39% de homens, cujas idades variaram de 60 a 95 anos, com média de 68,9 anos e desvio padrão de 6,7 anos. Quanto aos dados sociodemográficos dos idosos participantes da pesquisa, os resultados obtidos foram: 42,8% são casados, e 43,3%, viúvos, sendo que 37,1% moram com o cônjuge e 30,7% com os filhos; 37% recebem apenas um salário mínimo; para 72,6%, o processo da aposentadoria ocorreu por vontade própria, tendo como justificativa, para 27,9%, o tempo de serviço e, para 24,8%, a idade; para 27,6 %, a situação financeira melhorou após a aposentadoria, enquanto 63,1% relataram que nada piorou.No que se refere às questões investigativas sobre o lazer, os resultados apontaram que: a) para 15% dos participantes da pesquisa, o lazer é uma diversão/entretenimento e, para 24%, o lazer contribui para a saúde/relaxar; b) 12% associam significado do lazer ao viver melhor/longevidade; 98% consideram o lazer necessário para sua vida; e 84%, imprescindível; c) dos seis conteúdos culturais do lazer – manuais, intelectuais, sociais, físico-esportivos, artísticos e turísticos – os sociais constituíram 32,1% das atividades de lazer praticadas pelos idosos e os físico-esportivos, 24%. Um novo conteúdo cultural de lazer foi mencionado – atividades de envolvimento espiritual – por 2,2% dos idosos. Outros resultados constatados foram: para 96,3% dos idosos, a prática do lazer acontece por vontade própria, sendo que, para 24%, o lazer provoca uma sensação de bem-estar; 85,4% possuem uma atividade de lazer rotineira: 22% realizam caminhada e 14%, atividade física geral; para 93% dos idosos, as oportunidades de lazer tornaram-se ampliadas após a aposentadoria e 51% atribuem isto ao tempo livre; 84,7 dos idosos manifestaram vontade de praticar alguma atividade de lazer: viajar foi apontada por 32%; 61% dos idosos envolvidos na pesquisa conseguem envolver os familiares nos momentos de lazer, e 43% possuem o hábito de se reunirem com os amigos às vezes, sendo a dança/bailes a atividade mais praticada em grupo por 14% dos idosos. Os quatro domínios de qualidade de vida avaliados no WHOQOL-Bref tiveram resultados semelhantes entre si, destacando a cidade de Rio dos Cedros, com a média de 27,2% e desvio padrão 7,1, abaixo das outras cidades do Médio Vale do Itajaí.Em relação ao WHOQOL-OLD, a cidade de Apiúna ficou, no domínio funcionamento sensório, abaixo da média, com 67,2, e desvio padrão de 16,4. No domínio autonomia e atividades passadas, presentes e futuras, as 14 cidades obtiveram resultados parecidos. No domínio participação social, novamente a cidade de Apiúna ficou abaixo, com 69,4 de média, e 14,4 de desvio padrão, bem como no domínio morte e morrer, com 40,6 de média e 16,6 de desvio padrão. No último domínio, intimidade, a cidade de Timbó, entre as 14 cidades participantes da pesquisa, destacou-se, com 93,1 de média e 7,9 de desvio padrão. Este estudo permitiu concluir que: a) as cidades do Médio Vale do Itajaí, SC, Brasil, devem investir nas ofertas de atividades de lazer para os idosos a fim de proporcionarem uma gama de atividades para que estes não limitem a sua visão sobre a prática; b) experiências que permitam desenvolver atitudes críticas e criativas contribuem para que o lazer realmente seja considerado pelos idosos uma prática de satisfação e prazer individual, na mesma medida em que esclareça que o lazer vai além do mero entretenimento e diversão; e c) o lazer é também um dos meios de socialização, de saúde e de qualidade de vida dos indivíduos nessa fase da vida.
Aging is part of the continuous life process. However, to become old with quality and in activity is linked to intrinsic and extrinsic factors of the individual’s culture, with leisure being one of such contributions. Based on that understanding, this study aims at diagnosing the importance attributed to leisure as a life quality factor in the aging process, by active people with ages over 60 in the Médio Vale do Itajaí, SC, Brazil. Classified as quanti-quali, exploratory, descriptive, and transversal, this study involves a sample of 1,300 active old people of both genders of the 14 cities of the Médio Vale do Itajaí, SC, Brazil. The sample is composed of 61% women and 39% men, which ages vary from 60 to 95 years, with an average age of 68. 9 years and a standard deviation of 6. 7 years. With respect to sociodemographic data of the aged participants of the program the results attained were: 42. 8% are married and 43. 3% are widowers and widows, with 37. 1% living with the marriage partner and 30. 7% with the descendants; 37% earn only one minimum wage; for 72. 6% the retiring process was caused by the benefitted person with the justification of completed working time for 27. 9%, and of age for 24. 8%; for 27. 6%, the financial situation improved after the retirement, while 63. 1% report no worsening.With reference to investigative questions on leisure, the results appoint that: a) for 15% of the research participants, leisure contributes to health/relaxing; b) 12% associate significance to leisure for a better life/longevity; 98% consider leisure being necessary for their life; and 84% consider it indispensable; c) of the six cultural contents of leisure – manual, intellectual, social, physical-sportive, artistic, and touristic – social ones constitute 32. 1% of the leisure activities practiced by the old people, and the physical-sportive ones, 24%. A new cultural leisure content was mentioned – activities in spiritual involvement – by 2. 2% of the old. Other observed results were: for 96. 3% of the aged people, leisure is practiced by proper will, where for 24%, leisure causes a sensation of well-being; 85,4% have a routine leisure activity: 22% walk and 14% perform general physical activities; for 93% of the old, leisure opportunities become larger after retirement, and 51% attribute this to more free time available, 84. 7% of the old express the will of practicing a leisure activity: travelling was appointed by 32%, 61% of the old involved in the research achieve involving the family in the moments of leisure, and 43% have the habit of sometimes gathering with friends, with dancing/balls being the most performed leisure group activity by 14% of the old. The four life quality dominions evaluated in the WHOQOL-Bref presented similar results between themselves, setting off the city of Rio dos Cedros with an average of 27. 2% and a standard deviation of 7. 1, lower than that of the other cities of the Médio Vale do Itajaí.With respect to the WHOQOL-Bref, the city of Apiuna stayed, in the sensory functioning dominion, below the average with 67. 2 and a standard deviation of 16. 4. In the autonomy and passed, present and future activity dominion, the 14 cities attained similar results. In the social participation dominion, again the city of Apiuna stayed below, with an average of 69. 4, and a standard deviation of 14. 4, as well as in the death and dying dominion, with 40. 6, and a standard deviation of 16. 6. In the last dominion, intimacy, the city of Timbó, set off among the 14 cities participating in the research, with an average of 93. 1, and a standard deviation of 7. 9. This study has allowed to conclude that: a) the cities of the Médio Vale do Itajaí, SC, Brazil, must invest in leisure activity offers for aged people in order to provide a range of activities that avoids limiting their view on the practice; b) experiences that allow the development of critical and creative attitudes contribute that leisure really be considered by old people a practice of individual satisfaction and pleasure, at the same time as it explains that leisure goes beyond simple entertainment and amusement; and c) leisure is also a means of socialization, health, and life quality for the individuals in that life phase.
