Memórias compartilhadas: as vivências de imigrantes judeus durante a revolução de 1923 no Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

A pesquisa visa a analisar as repercussões da Revolução de 1923 na colônia agrícola judaica de Quatro Irmãos, e as razões pelas quais estes imigrantes compartilharam a memória do acontecimento com seu grupo étnico. A Fazenda Quatro Irmãos foi a segunda tentativa da companhia de colonização inglesa Jewish Colonization Association de estabelecer judeus, vindos do Leste Europeu, onde viviam em más condições de vida, e os estabelecer no norte do Estado gaúcho, nos anos de 1911/1912. O impacto deste episódio revolucionário gaúcho, a Revolução de 1923, decorrente de um conflito político que abrangeu grande parte do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, e as dificuldades causadas e/ou agravadas com o advento deste conflito permanecem na memória da comunidade judaica como um dos fatores que determinaram o “fracasso agrícola” no Brasil. O estudo fica enriquecido com as lembranças e as vivências de exmoradores da colônia de Quatro Irmãos, os quais tiveram seu cotidiano marcado por esta Revolução, e que contribuíram com seu depoimento oral ao Departamento de Documentação e Memória do Instituto Cultural Judaico Marc Chagall, sediado em Porto Alegre/RS/BR.

This Project aims to analyze the impact of the 1923 Revolution in the Jewish agricultural colony of Quatro Irmãos, and the reasons why these immigrants shared the event memory with their ethnic group. The Fazenda Quatro Irmãos was the second attempt by the british colonization company Jewish Colonization Association, to establish jews, coming from Eastern Europe, where they lived in poor conditions, and situated them at the northern Rio Grande do Sul State, by the years of 1911/1912. The impact of this revolutionary episode, the Revolution of 1923, due to a political conflict that covered much of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and the difficulties caused and/or aggravated by the advent of this conflict remain in the jewish community memories as one of the causes that determined the Agricultural Failure in Brazil. This Study counts with the memories and the past living experiences of the former colony inhabitants of Quatro Irmãos, in wich they had marked their daily lives by this already cited Revolution, and who contributed with their testimony to the Memory and Documentation Department of Instituto Cultural Judaico Marc Chagall, in Porto Alegre/RS/BR.
