A revista A Defesa Nacional e o projeto de modernização do exército brasileiro (1931-1937)

Abstract

Este trabalho tem por objetivo maior discutir a relação entre a revista A Defesa Nacional e a modernização do Exército brasileiro ocorrida nos primeiros anos do governo Vargas, isto é, de 1931 a 1937. Este período engloba dois fatos significantes da história nacional: a Revolução de 1930, ocorrida em outubro e que modificou a estrutura política do país; e o Estado Novo, lançado em novembro de 1937 que inaugurou uma ditadura civil, com apoio dos militares, que se manteria no poder até 1945. Durante este período, ocorreram significativas transformações no Exército e as discussões encetadas pela oficialidade a respeito destas mudanças foram significativamente traduzidas pelas páginas da revista A Defesa Nacional. Esta revista, fundada em 1913, tinha como objetivo levar a toda a oficialidade militar a discussão sobre as necessidades do Exército e a importância de se reforçar a instituição. Durante a década de 1930, ela exercerá um papel bastante importante no cenário militar e nas diversas mudanças que ocorrem na instituição neste período.

This paper pretend to discuss the larger relationship between the magazine National Defense and the modernization of the Brazilian Army from the early years of the Vargas government, 1931 to 1937. This period covers two significant facts of national history: the Revolution of 1930 occurred in October and changed the political structure of the country, and the New State, released in November 1937 that inaugurated a civilian dictatorship, with the support of the military, which would remain in power until 1945. During this period there were significant changes in the army and the discussions initiated by the officers regarding these changes were significantly translated the pages of National Defense magazine. This magazine, founded in 1913, aimed to bring all military officers to discuss the needs of the Army and the importance of strengthening the institution. During the 1930s, she will play a very important role in the military scenario and the various changes occurring in the institution during this period.
