This paper presents the development of a truck simulator prototype directed to the assessment of the use of the economic direction techniques. The economic direction techniques and their way of monitoring and the process of construction of a virtual environment and the interaction devices used in the simulator are described. The simulation is performed using a virtual desktop environment with configuration of specific hardware and software to provide higher level of immersion to the user. Through the testing of drivers and instructors with the economic direction, we can see that the prototype can be used as a tool for assessing of training drivers and that the developed system is capable of capturing, in a similar way to a human expert, most of the violations of the use of the economic direction techniques occurred during the simulation.
