Engajamento político-educativo na imprensa feminina brasileira do século XIX: o periódico A Mulher (1881-1883)

Abstract

O presente trabalho teve por objetivo investigar de que forma a atividade periodística feminina produziu engajamento político-educativo no contexto do Brasil do século XIX, considerando como fonte principal de pesquisa o periódico “A Mulher”, de autoria de Josefa Águeda Felisbela Mercedes de Oliveira e Maria Augusta Generoso Estrela, publicado entre 1881 e 1883. A investigação procurou trazer para o debate o contexto educacional oitocentista e suas implicações e os interditos para o acesso das mulheres à educação, especialmente à Educação Superior. Buscou, utilizando como metodologia os princípios da hermenêutica feminina, compreender como a escrita periódica feminina, enquanto fonte rica e original de pesquisa, inseriu-se nesse debate, opondo-se às formas de educação feminina que negavam às mulheres a emancipação – intelectual, política, econômica e social –, na segunda metade do século XIX. Buscou, igualmente, explorar a escrita periódica feminina como uma escrita autoral – produzida por e para mulheres – capaz de evidenciar capacidade intelectual e criativa por parte das mulheres oitocentistas e, ao mesmo tempo, capaz de promover engajamento através de uma escrita original, argumentativa e militante.

This study aimed to investigate how female journalistic activity produced political-educational engagement in the Brazilian context of the 19th century, considering the journal “A Mulher”, by Josefa Águeda Felisbela Mercedes de Oliveira and Maria Augusta Generoso Estrela, published between 1881 and 1883. The investigation sought to bring to the debate the educational context of the nineteenth century and its implications and the prohibitions for women's access to education, especially to Higher Education. It sought, using the principles of female hermeneutics as a methodology, to understand how female periodic writing, as a rich and original source of research, entered this debate, opposing the forms of female education that denied women emancipation - intellectual, political, economic and social – in the second half of the 19th century. It also sought to explore female periodic writing as authorial writing – produced by and for women – capable of showing intellectual and creative capacity on the part of nineteenth-century women and, at the same time, with the ability to promote engagement through the original, argumentative, and militant.
