Photovoltaic (PV) systems installed in rural areas are an alternative for the sustainable development of agriculture and are increasingly present in Brazil. The objective of this dissertation is to analyze the evolution of the market for photovoltaic systems in rural areas in Brazil and the influence of ambient temperature, solar irradiance and wind speed on the energy yield of photovoltaic systems installed in rural properties with different installation conditions and for different times of year. Two photovoltaic systems of approximately 20 kWP were installed in the State of Paraná, one on the roof of a cow-shed, associated property of the LAR cooperative (LAR Cooperativa Agroindustrial) and the other one was ground mounted in the property associated to the COPACOL cooperative (Cooperativa Agroindustrial Consolata). The growth of the rural market in Brazil was analyzed, using ANEEL data base, in the three States with the highest participation, as well as by the behavior of the market share in each region. The photovoltaic market is growing faster in this sector than in other ones, achieving 14% of the total in 2021. The parameters that influence the energy yield of the PV systems, such as solar irradiance and the temperature of PV modules, during a day with cloudless sky close to the solstices and equinoxes were analyzed. The temperature of the modules was higher in the afternoon than in the morning, affecting the energy yield. This result indicates if there is a need to select between the west or east orientation of the PV array, the orientation towards the east is preferable. Also was found that the temperature increase rate is inversely proportional to the wind speed up to 5 m/s, tending to stablilize at 2 °C/(m/s). The daily energy yield of the PV system located on the roof, in the LAR cooperative, was higher than that one of the ground mounted PV array in many days, being lower only in winter. This result is related to the lower temperature of the PV modules, influenced by the higher wind speed. The highest value of the daily energy yield, of 6.41 kWh/kWP, occurred in autumn season in the system located on the roof.
