Watch me bloom: uma jornada valente de transformação

Abstract

Este trabalho está dividido em duas partes: um estudo teórico e uma amostra criativa. Inicialmente, através de um ensaio pessoal, comento sobre a influência da Disney na infância com suas histórias de princesas lançadas até a aparição de Merida, protagonista do filme de animação Valente. O principal objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a narrativa da personagem, como seu desenvolvimento no filme se diferencia das princesas anteriores e como ela se encaixa nos nove estágios da jornada feminina desenvolvida por Victoria Lynn Schmidt (2001), em seu livro 45 master characters: mythic models for creating original characters. Trago também citações e estudos de Maureen Murdock (1990), Simone de Beauvoir (1967) e Henry Giroux (2010). A segunda parte contém meu trabalho criativo, uma história sobre transformações e autoconhecimento intitulada de watch me bloom (em português: me observe florescer), onde apresento uma amostra da estrutura narrativa e um trecho do primeiro capítulo, em conjunto com uma ficha dos personagens centrais e arquivos sobre a cidade onde será ambientada a história.

This work is divided into two sections: a theoretical study and a creative writing sample. I begin by presenting an essay on Disney’s influence on childhood, in which I comment on the company’s princess stories up until Merida, the protagonist of the animated feature Brave. The main objective of this work is to analyze that character’s narrative and how her development in the movie differs from that of princesses before her, as well as how she fits into the nine stages of the female journey as developed by Victoria Lynn Schmidt (2001) in her book 45 master characters: mythic models for creating original characters. I also present quotes and studies by Maureen Murdock (1990), Simone de Beauvoir (1967), and Henry Giroux (2010). In the latter section is my creative work, a story about transformation and self-knowledge entitled watch me bloom, wherein I present a sample of the narrative’s structure, as well as an excerpt from one chapter, which is accompanied by the central characters’ profiles, and documents on the city in which the story takes place.
