This monograph consists on a study about masculinity and stereotypes in advertising, based on the analysis of six commercials in the beauty and wellness niche, from the brands Dove, Axe and Gillette. In order to guide the study, the research problem is: "how can we identify and analyze masculinity and the dynamization of gender stereotypes in advertising?", aiming to understand how male stereotypes manifest themselves in advertising, as well as how to identify changes in male stereotypes in advertising in the last two decades, using authors such as Barreto (2016), Hiller (2012) and Roberts (2004). In addition to these purposes, it was also proposed to understand the social context of masculinity, based on authors such as Barreto (2016), Badinter (1986, 1993), Foucault (1988) and Nolasco (1995). The methodological procedures used are bibliographic research, document analysis and categorical content analysis based on the authors Marconi and Lakatos (2002), Silva, Almeida and Guindani (2009) and Bardin (1977). From the analysis of categorical content, it was proposed to compare the changes in brand positioning and representation of stereotypes that occurred in the beginning of the current century and in the last five years. The main results are based on the understanding that the representation of stereotypes in advertising has changed over the years, but has not ceased to exist. The author identified that the stereotype has two biases. First, it is important to emphasize that stereotypes makes it self necessary in society in order to generate identification and help in the formation of identities, but looking at it from another point of view, the stereotype also presents an exclusionary behavior. Therefore, what attracted the most attention is that stereotypes in advertising can add, but also exclude. |
