A matemática no cotidiano e na sociedade: perspectivas do aluno do ensino médio

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo investigar as perspectivas de estudantes do Ensino Médio a respeito da Matemática no contexto da sociedade em que estão inseridos, com o intuito de compreender suas visões e opiniões a respeito dessa disciplina. A investigação realizou-se com alunos da segunda e terceira séries do Ensino Médio de uma escola pública da Grande Porto Alegre, trazendo discussões e atividades que evolveram os temas: Matemática e as Ciências, Matemática e a Sociedade e Matemática no Ensino Médio hoje, relacionados com os conteúdos estudados na escola e com o cotidiano dos alunos. Na pesquisa, utilizam-se questionários e entrevistas, assim como atividades desenvolvidas pelos participantes. O relato e a análise crítica das produções e das considerações feitas pelos alunos durante as entrevistas mostram suas dificuldades em interpretar e lidar com a disciplina em um contexto fora da escola, pois suas falas deixam transparecer uma visão superficial sobre as ações da Matemática na sociedade e nas ciências. A dissociação entre a Matemática do Ensino Médio e a Matemática do dia-a-dia está presente na formação escolar desses alunos, na medida em que não encontram uma justificativa que os convençam da necessidade e da importância da disciplina em suas vidas. O estudo traça um perfil dos participantes da investigação e suas projeções futuras a respeito da Matemática em suas vidas, discutindo-se a realidade do ensino de Matemática, especialmente sob a perspectiva da Educação Matemática Crítica.

The present work has as objective to investigate the perspectives of High School students regarding mathematics in the context of the society where they are inserted, aiming to understand their views and opinions about this subject. The research was fulfilled with students of second and third grades of a public school in Great Porto Alegre, bringing discussions and activities that involved the following themes: Mathematics and Sciences, Mathematics and Society and Mathematics in High School today, related with the contents studied in the school and with the everyday life of the students. In the research, questionnaires and interviews are used, as well as activities developed by the participants. The report and the critical analysis of the productions and the considerations done by the students during interviews reveal their difficulties in interpreting and dealing with the subject in a context outside the school, since their speaks allow their superficial conceptions about mathematics in society and sciences to be manifested. The dissociation between mathematics of High School and everyday mathematics is present in the school formation of these students, while they do not find a justification that convinces them of the necessity and importance of this subject in their lives. The study reveal a profile of the research participants and their future projections regarding Mathematics in their lives, arguing the reality of mathematics teaching, especially under the perspectives of the Critical Mathematics Education.
