Muito além do olhar: um enlace da matemática com a arte

Abstract

Esta pesquisa consiste em verificar, por meio da leitura de imagens, como os atributos matemáticos usados por alguns artistas no processo de criação e execução contribuem para a aprendizagem da Matemática. Para tanto, procurou-se reestruturar conceitos matemáticos existentes nas obras, ressaltando a importância da apreensão do vocabulário e da compreensão de seus significados de forma aprazível e pouco formal. É importante observar que em vários períodos da História foram verificadas inúmeras situações que sustentam o entrelaçamento das Artes Visuais nas aulas de Matemática. Assim, frente às muitas inquietações relativas ao ensino e à aprendizagem da Matemática, e também da Arte, delineou-se uma abordagem pedagógica na qual os alunos de uma turma de quinta e uma de sexta séries de uma escola rural municipal na região metropolitana de Porto Alegre construíram seus próprios conceitos matemáticos a partir das obras de artistas abstratos geométricos. Houve aqueles alunos que se sentiram pouco a vontade diante da necessidade da pesquisa para a compreensão de conceitos, sendo esse o maior motivo de insatisfação por parte dos mesmos, cujo interesse estava voltado para a prática das operações elementares, que foi trabalhada, mas pouco evidenciada. Entretanto, muitas crianças mostraram-se bastante empolgadas com suas inúmeras descobertas conceituais, levando-as a uma satisfação pessoal e a uma aprendizagem efetiva e menos traumática, notória em suas composições artístico-geométricas.

This research project consists in verifying, through the reading of images, how the mathematical attributes that some artists use in their creative process contribute to the learning of Mathematics. In order to do that, an attempt was made to restructure mathematical concepts present in the images, highlighting the importance of the acquisition of vocabulary and the understanding of its meanings in an enjoyable and informal manner. It is important to observe that in various periods in History, several situations were verified which support the interlinking of Visual Arts in Mathematics lessons. Hence, in face of the many concerns related to the teaching and learning of Mathematics, and also Art, a pedagogical approach was designed, in which students of a fifth- and a sixth-grade class in a rural school of the municipality of Porto Alegre built their own mathematical concepts based on the works of geometric abstract artists. Some students felt ill at ease when faced with the need of the research project in terms of the understanding of concepts. That was the major cause of dissatisfaction among students, whose primary interest was in performing elementary operations, which was done, but was not the main focus. However, many of the children were very excited with their countless conceptual discoveries, leading to personal satisfaction and effective and less traumatic learning, which was verified in their artistic-geometric compositions.
