The use of polyurethanes for surface coatings whatever they are as textile, leather or paper has been grown significantly worldwide This paper has the objective of studying the influence of nature of chain extenders in the physicochemical and mechanical properties of polyurethanes used as material for surface coating. In this sense, polyurethane based solvent (SU) was produced similarly to a commercial product used for coating of textiles surfaces, paper among others products. The polyurethane was obtained through the reaction between Isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and polyols polyesters mixture of 2000 and 1000 g/mol, using the method of two stages (method of pre-polymer). The extension of chain was carried through with two diamines (PDA e IPDA)/IPDI. The reactional follow up was carried out by FT-IR and the final polymer obtained was characterized with the techniques of FT-IR, Viscosimetry, DMTA, DSC and GPC. The polymers synthesized showed relativity low cristalinity (17%), molecular weight (7091 g/mol) and viscosity (6000 cPs) very similar to the commercial products. The chain extensions carried out with the mixture of diamines and with pure and isolated diamines showed significative differences in the physico-chemical and mechanicals properties of the polymers obtained as the yield and ductility that were significantly influenced by the structure of the diamines used.
