Justificação epistêmica e normatividade

Abstract

Essa dissertação diz respeito a dois problemas cruciais em epistemologia. O primeiro é como entender a natureza da normatividade epistêmica. Assim como em ética, também em epistemologia há uma divisão entre o que se entende por epistemologia normativa, atrelada às várias concepções de como devemos formar e revisar nossas crenças, e uma dimensão metaepistêmica, que lida com a natureza das normas epistêmicas em geral. O segundo problema está relacionado às dificuldades metaepistêmicas de se encontrar uma resposta para a pergunta, considerada trivial por muitos: por que, afinal, devemos seguir normas epistêmicas? Ou, simplesmente, por que devemos ser racionais?

This dissertation is concerned with two crucial problems in epistemology. The first is how to understand the nature of epistemic normativity. As in ethics, also in epistemology there is a division between what is meant by normative epistemology, linked to the various conceptions of how we form and revise our beliefs, and a metaepistemical dimension, which deals with the nature of epistemic norms in general. The second problem is related to the metaepistemical difficulties of finding a answer to the question, considered trivial by many: why, after all, should we follow epistemic norms? Or, simply, why should we be rational?
