Um novo olhar para a arqueologia da Amazônia

Abstract

A proposta desta dissertação está fundamentada em alguns conceitos da Teoria da Argumentação na Língua de Oswald Ducrot, como ferramenta de análise no discurso de Betty Meggers. Identificando o sentido construído pela autora no livro Amazônia: a ilusão de um paraíso (1977), articulam-se alguns conceitos teóricos do momento atual da Teoria dos Blocos Semânticos para à análise desse discurso. Afirmando que fatores ambientais estabeleceram um limite ao potencial de desenvolvimento sustentável para as sociedades amazônicas, Meggers recria o ambiente amazônico como um ecossistema formado pela seleção natural e as culturas amazônicas como parte de um complexo sistema de adaptação ecológica. Identificando o sentido construído pela autora busca-se um novo olhar para essas múltiplas vozes argumentativas.

This dissertation uses Oswald Ducrot’s linguistic approach to argumentation theory as a tool in the analysis of the discourse of Betty Meggers. Certain concepts from the current phase of Semantic Block Theory are brought together in order to identify the meaning constructed by the author in her book Amazônia: a ilusão de um paraíso (1977). Through her affirmation that environmental factors established a limit on the Amazonian societies’ potential for sustainable development, Meggers recreates the Amazonian environment as an ecosystem formed through natural selection, and the Amazonian cultures as part of a complex system of ecological adaptation. By identifying the meaning constructed by the author, a new perspective is sought for these polyphonic argumentative voices.
