Porto Alegre em dois cenários: a nostalgia da modernidade no olhar dos cronistas

Abstract

A crise das idéias modernas e seus efeitos sobre os vários domínios do conhecimento é um fato no momento contemporâneo. A presente tese, nesse sentido, repassa um conjunto de pensadores que discutem as metamorfoses do moderno, seus reflexos nas cidades e as novas temporalidades para questionar os efeitos das mesmas nas representações dos cronistas de Porto Alegre. Analisa também os reflexos dessas alterações no ambiente urbano local e seus desdobramentos nas relações sociais. Para tanto, enfoca prioritariamente dois momentos históricos distintos (dois cenários), no intuito de contextualizar os atores e as obras investigadas. No primeiro, relê duas obras de Theodomiro Tostes: “Nosso Bairro: Memórias” e “Bazar”, fontes literárias que descrevem a “ambiência” e o imaginário do moderno em Porto Alegre. No segundo, investiga a crise do moderno nos cronistas contemporâneos com o objetivo de estabelecer um paralelo comparativo entre os “dois cenários”.

The crisis of the modern ideas and its effects on a great number of knowledge domains is a fact in the contemporary world. Thus, this thesis reviews a group of thinkers who discuss the metamorphoses of the modern, their consequences in the cities, and the new temporalities, in order to question the effects of these changes in the local urban environment and its development in the social relations. It focus on two distinct historical moments (two scenarios), aiming at contextualizing the actors and the investigated works. In the first historical moment, this thesis re-reads two works of Theodomiro Tostes: “Nosso Bairro: Memórias” e “Bazar”, literary sources which describe the “ambivalence” and the modern imaginary in Porto Alegre. In the second one, it investigates the modern crisis in the contemporary historians, with the purpose of establishing a comparative parallel between the “two scenarios”.
