Os artefatos de arremesso dos campos da América Meridional: um estudo de caso das boleadeiras

Abstract

O objetivo desta dissertação é entender as boleadeiras num processo histórico contínuo; porém, com diferentes significados. A abordagem utilizada analisa o uso das boleadeiras pelas diferentes parcialidades indígenas do Sul Meridional, nas atividades da caça e da guerra, comentando sua transculturação para o cotidiano do peão campeiro que as utilizou no trabalho nas estâncias de gado. Após a domesticação dos animais, as boleadeiras perdem sua função técnica, mas continuam presentes no contexto cultural do gaúcho como um elemento simbólico que representa e fortalece a sua identidade riograndense. Visando compreender o simbolismo das boleadeiras nos diferentes períodos históricos, realizou-se uma etnografia na cidade de Uruguaiana/RS, na qual se abordou a memória oral dos gaúchos que tiveram a oportunidade de confeccionar e utilizar as suas boleadeiras no trabalho rural. A ênfase das entrevistas é dedicada a conhecer e compreender os atuais significados simbólicos das boleadeiras no contexto cultural do gaúcho, assim como na indumentária, na dança, no CTG, na poesia, nas lendas, na música, no cinema, etc. Na aldeia “Polidoro Povo Charrua”, em Porto Alegre, efetuou-se uma etnoarquelogia que destaca a maneira como os indígenas se apropriam das bolas de boleadeiras na construção dos seus discursos étnicos como um elemento simbólico que afirma a existência de seus ancestrais Charrua. Nesta pesquisa, as boleadeiras foram pensadas como patrimônios simbólicos que ultrapassam o tempo num processo histórico ressignificativo. Procurou-se, desta forma, construir um trabalho interdisciplinar, contemplando os significados das boleadeiras na memória oral de gaúchos e indígenas com o simples objetivo de colaborar com as futuras pesquisas nesta temática.

The objective of this dissertation is understanding the “boleadeiras” in a continuous historical process, although with different meanings. The approach used analyses the usage of “boleadeiras” by different indigenous partialities of the Meridional South, in the activities of war and hunting, commenting its transculturation to the day-by-day of farmer workers, who used them in cattle farms. After domestication, the “boleadeiras” lose their technical function, but keep present in the cultural context of the “gaucho” as a symbolic element which represents and strengthens their identity in Rio Grande do Sul. Aiming the comprehension of the symbolism to the “boleadeiras” in different historical periods, we realized ethnography in the town of Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul state, in which we approached the oral memory of the “gauchos” that have made and used their “boleadeiras” in the rural labor. The focus on the interviews is dedicated to know and understand the current symbolic meanings of the “boleadeiras” in the cultural “gaucho” context, as well as in their dressing, dancing, poetry, legends, music, cinema, etc. At the Polidoro Povo Charrua settlement, in Porto Alegre, we did ethno archeology, that emphasizes the way indigenous people adopt the rock balls of the “boleadeiras” to build their ethnic discourses, as a symbolic element which affirms the existence of their Charrua ancestors. In this research, the “boleadeiras” were thought as symbolic inheritance that overcomes time in a historical process which renews its meaning. We tried, this way, to set an interdisciplinary project, overlooking the meanings of the “boleadeiras” in the oral memory of gauchos and Indians, with the mere objective of cooperating with future researches on this topic.
