| Abstract: | A presente tese tem por objetivo investigar a abordagem sobre a escravidão negra no pensamento do jesuíta Alonso de Sandoval, a partir das duas edições de sua obra De instauranda Aethiopum salute (1627 e 1647). Mais precisamente, buscamos apontar como é desenvolvida uma etiologia da escravidão negra com viés salvacionista, alinhada com o contexto histórico, filosófico e, especialmente, teológico da época. Com base no delineamento de uma breve genealogia da escravidão, desde a Antiguidade e através do Medievo, chegamos à América colonial onde Sandoval une sua própria vivência, marcada pelo contato e trabalho com os africanos escravizados, com os fundamentos teóricos que buscam explicar a questão do cativeiro. A pesquisa se justifica no sentido em que contribui para a compreensão do próprio sentido de América, no tocante às ideologias envolvidas no processo de formação social, histórica e cultural de suas gentes, além de integrar um campo de estudos muito maior, a saber, as pesquisas sobre Escolástica Colonial latino-americana em seus mais variados aspectos.
The present thesis aims to investigate the approach on black slavery in the thinking of Alonso de Sandoval, based on the two editions of his work De instauranda Aethiopum salute (1627 and 1647). Precisely, we seek to point out how is developed an etiology of black slavery with a salvationist bias, aligned with the historical, philosophical and, especially, theological context of this time. Based on the outline of a brief genealogy of slavery, from Antiquity and through the Middle Ages, we arrived in colonial America where Sandoval, unites his own experience, marked by contact and work with enslaved Africans, with the theoretical foundations that seek to explain the issue of captivity. The research is justified in the sense that it contributes to the understanding of the meaning of America, with regard to the ideologies involved in the process of social, historical and cultural formation of its people, besides integrating a much larger field of studies, namely, the research on Colonial Scholasticism in its most varied aspects. |
