| Abstract: | A partir do meu interesse pelo futebol americano, com consciência de quanto esse esporte é pouco explorado no Brasil pela historiografia nacional, realizei uma pesquisa inicial na Hemeroteca Digital da Biblioteca Nacional a respeito de como ele foi historicamente visto no Brasil, tomando como base sua cobertura pela imprensa. Selecionei diversas passagens de reportagens e revistas dos jornais brasileiros que elucidavam opiniões, julgamentos, estereótipos, estranhamentos e preconceitos de um esporte que é sucesso nos Estados Unidos. Ademais, o contexto nacional e internacional contribuiu para o entendimento das análises esportivas de contraposição ou valorização da identidade nacional brasileira e estadunidense. Portanto, busco analisar as representações do futebol americano na imprensa brasileira entre o período que corresponde a Terceira República no Brasil, de novembro de 1945 à fevereiro de 1964, questionando-me como a representação do futebol americano nos jornais e nas revistas brasileiras refletiu o contraste entre as identidades nacionais brasileira e estadunidense, e como se relacionou com o debate político-ideológico do período. Observou-se, nas reportagens dos jornais do Brasil, os comentários direcionados ao esporte da bola oval que continham contrastes das identidades nacionais de ambos os países, além do antiamericanismo presente.
From my interest in American football, aware of how little this sport is explored in Brazil by national historiography, I carried out an initial research in the Hemeroteca Digital da Biblioteca Nacional about how it was historically seen in Brazil, based on its coverage by the press. I selected several passages of reports and magazines from Brazilian newspapers that elucidated opinions, judgments, stereotypes, strangeness and prejudices of a sport that is successful in the United States. Furthermore, the national and international context contributed to the understanding of sports analyzes of opposition or appreciation of Brazilian and American national identity. Therefore, I seek to analyze the representations of American football in the Brazilian press between the period corresponding to the Third Republic in Brazil, from November 1945 to February 1964, questioning myself how the representation of American football in Brazilian newspapers reflected the contrast between the Brazilian and US national identities, and how it related to the political-ideological debate of the period. It was observed in the Brazilian newspapers' reports, the comments directed to the sport of the oval ball that contained contrasts of the national identities of both countries, in addition to the anti-Americanism present. |
