The aim of this study was to determine the number of root canals in lower first premolars, by means of radiography and clearing, trying to correlate the findings with the absence or presence of root longitudinal grooves. Eightytwo lower first premolars were distribuited into three groups (teeth without sulcus, with shallow sulcus, and with deep sulcus). The teeth were radiographed and clearing. Cleared specimens and radiographic images were classified according to the number of root canals. The results obtained allowed us to affirm that the presence and deepness of root longitudinal grooves gradually affected the increase of the number of root canals in lower first premolars. |
