Abstract: | Os hábitos de sucção sem fins nutritivos e a respiração bucal são fatores de risco para o desenvolvimento de más oclusões. O objetivo deste trabalho é enfatizar a importância do diagnóstico e tratamento oportuno, exemplificando a terapêutica por meio da apresentação de um caso clínico. A paciente de oito anos de idade, respiradora bucal e com hábito de sucção digital - apresentando a tríade mordida aberta, mordida cruzada posterior e má oclusão de Classe II —, foi submetida a tratamento ortodôntico na Faculdade de Odontologia da PUCRS. Non-nutritive sucking habits and mouth breathing are risk factors for the development of malocclusions. The aim of this work is to emphasize the importance of diagnosis and timely treatment by exemplifying the therapeutics through the presentation of a case report. An 8-year-old female patient, mouth breather, presenting the triad of open bite, posterior crossbite and Angle Class II malocclusion underwent orthodontic treatment at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul - PUCRS. |
